Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
