Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks his initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.
Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, took control to push for a final set.
Moutet saved four early opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
