The star has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which functions to save the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

He was presented with the award on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

He has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages had in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to assist 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted venues that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations received financial assistance in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in large arenas supports the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," the artist explained to outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the community center that developed their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year M People gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said artist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had rescued two grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the properties.
